I spent new year 2001 there. It was like a war zone and I didn't enjoy it much. Rest of the time, it's been great. I've been loads of times now.

Amsterdam is nice and very picturesque. Not just drugs and hookers. Good place for just walking around enjoying the views of the canals. Loads of historic things to see. Helps to be stoned of course though.

If you are just going for a piss up i wound reccomend Brno in Czech. Small enough to wander around , cheap and not ruined by the stag night mob yet.

Decent flying times from stanstead also.

Just go Grumps. It's not my fav place at all but decent for a little weekend away.

It's quite pretty and all the drugs stuff is very easily avoided. Some great restaurants and if you like pubs you'll be in the right place.

Best in good weather though, imo. Walking around it in the pissing rain dulls it just a bit.

Missus has been pestering me to go to Amsterdam for ages, but never really appealed to me as I've never touched a drug in my life.

Clearly more to the place than that and we both absolutely love lager so a shit excuse and should I be putting myself out to take her there for a weekend next year?

Handy now they fly from Southend for starts as I'm only 4 miles from the airport.

Leonard you senile old git it's right between The Damrak and Nieumarkt. I used to live in Waterlooplein.

Generally speaking The Dam is a shithole.

If you're looking for some action go to The Old Sailor just off the Damrak. Be full of Rent Boys.

Fasten your porthole.

Re: Best place in Amsterdam to watch the Chelsea game
I've found this season the best place to watch us is through the gaps in your fingers as you hold your head in your hands.

Haven't we fucked up most of your weekends this year enough that you have to have a weekend away surrounded by pissed-up, stoned, gloating plastics trying desperately not to glass a few?

...or worse, as it's a 12.30 kick off (1.30 in Amsterdam) with you sick, sober and sorry trying to drink off the mother of all hangovers from an average Englishman in Amsterdam night out.

I'd be seriously considering fucking it off. Having said that, at least there are no shortage of places you can take your frustration at a tonking out on.

I suppose there's an upside and a downside...

I'm a York hammer.

I'm not originally from York, but I've bumped into one or two natives who support us.

Usually stream, but I'd go to the pub if you can find one close to Fulford - still suffering from sciatica, so don't want to go further than 15 mins walk for someone fit - probably 25 mins for me.
